The place is renowned for its vast size, natural beauty and spectacular views, all of which come together to draw in millions of visitors from across the UK each year.

Not only is it stunning to be around, but the Lake District also has a boatload to offer campers and visitors in terms of things to do and experience whilst they take in all of these sights and sounds. From quaint country pubs to fancy restaurants that are world famous for their cuisine, right through to family boat rides and even more extreme water sports, there is truly something for everyone.

When you think of all of these things together, it’s clear why the destination is so popular. It does also mean however that there is a huge number of campsites around the gigantic national park for you to choose from when you decide to visit yourself. We’ve highlighted four of our very favourites all to help you make the best possible trip however you like to spend your time away.

What you might look for in a campsite in the Lakes

Before we look at these incredible campsites in the Lakes, it helps to figure out what will make the best campsite for your trip. For example, a popular activity whilst in the area is hiking. In fact, one of the most popular attractions in the Lake District include Scafell Pike, a 978-metre tall mountain that’s the highest in England. On top of that, however, there’s also a huge number of simple walking trails on offer in the area alongside more challenging options if you wish to push yourself further.

Hiking isn't all there is either. As you might have guessed, the Lake District is full of lakes and other bodies of water. The most famous are generally Lake Windermere, Ullwater and Derwentwater. If you’re one for taking in nature, spending time on the water or simply spending your days with breathtaking views, you might want to make sure you camp somewhere that offers exactly that.

Finally, it is worth thinking about all the places you could visit. The area offers some really exceptional places to eat and drink, including a number of Michelin-star restaurants where you can sample the irresistible local produce. This all changes from season to season too and can all be enjoyed in harmony. In a motorhome or caravan, you’re not tied down to just the one spot of course, but knowing where to pitch up is still really helpful ahead of time.
